Crestview earned the name “Hub City” because roads, rails, and people converge there. Behind the fences at Okaloosa CI, a different kind of traffic keeps moving—counts, callouts, radio transmissions, controlled movement, and officers carrying the institution from one shift to the next.
Since 1983, generations of correctional officers and staff have learned Okaloosa the same way: one post, one dorm, and occasionally one spectacularly screwed-up shift at a time. The work demands awareness, patience, and absolute trust in the people standing beside you.
The artwork places Okaloosa’s tower on the wooded crest that gave Crestview its name. The golden Yellow River and blue-gray Shoal River descend along opposite sides, while the compass geometry recognizes the city’s crossroads identity.
This isn’t a Crestview souvenir. It’s for the people who went through the gate, took the post, and did the job.
